Yesterday (Sunday) I wasn’t actually in the studio – though I was doing arty things like attending an exhibition opening at the Ballarat Art Gallery and then partaking in a quite beverage at a local wine bar with a couple of friends (yes this is an arty thing to do!)
The interesting (and blurry) part came though when later that night I couldn’t sleep…. I tried valiantly for a few hours, then turned on the bedside lamp and read for a couple of hours, then got up and had a cup of tea and checked some emails…. then finally gave up and ventured out to the studio – yes ventured: this is Winter in Ballarat!
So, it may have been the wee hours of Monday morning, but it was still dark so that is as good as Sunday for me!!
I loaded and lit the kiln for a student bisque firing and set about experimenting with some ides I had peculating in my head for a while and had been roughly sketching and recording in my Big Dreams journal – including some minimalist jugs, succulent planters (or nut bowls, etc), some chop stick rests (to keep hubby happy), a kitchen scoop for rice and cereals, and some rose buttons inspired by my button ring design, at the suggestion of a happy customer.
While productive, I can think of easier ways to be creative and inspired in the studio!!
I finally crashed into bed at midday and slept for the grand total of three hours – and I am now typing this at midnight …. hopefully this does not mean another night of insomnia!
More productive than when I have insomnia !
haha – yes, well usually when I have insomnia I am not this productive – usually I lie in bed getting frustrated at not being able to sleep… I have decided now though that I will get up & do stuff!!
