Sunday Studio Visit – #Makeforgood

Besides firing the kiln this afternoon, I have also been finalising my jewellery designs for this years Makeforgood campaign, a charity event facilitated by a partnership between Etsy Australia and Plan Australia to raise awareness and money for the brighter futuresĀ of the lives of girls in Cambodia.

The theme this year “creating brighter futures” so I am making a range of jewellery from brightly coloured handmade paper beads – a necklace, charm bracelet and earrings – which are repeatable designs, though the beads will always be a little different so that you are still assured a unique piece of jewellery.

I am donating 25% of any sales toward the campaign, and am on schedule to list my items in my ETSY shop tomorrow (Monday).

The hashtag to search Etsy for the full range of makeforgood items is, yes you guessed – makeforgood. This is a great opportunity to get your Christmas shopping finished early, plus contribute to an important campaign.

Meanwhile here are some work in progress pics to tempt you – for a good cause!

And cutting the paper for the beads šŸ™‚ – have a great weekend!

Sunday Studio Visit – Paper Beads

Today in the studio I have been working onĀ handmadeĀ paperbeads. I discovered that I loved the effects possible usingĀ paper to create beads a few months ago during an Etsy Craft Party weekend event. Since then I have been making lots of beadsĀ and have quite a few jewellery listings in my ETSY store now.

This afternoon, however, IĀ have been making beads for the #makeforgood campaign – a joint initiative being instigated by Plan Australia and Etsy Australia to bring awareness to the lack of opportunity available for women in small business in disadvantaged and developing countries, and by default the lack of education available to girls in getting them into small business. Funds raised during this cause will be directed toward these women and girls, and this will be achieved by participants (like me) donating 20% of the sales of particular items to the cause. These items must be reproducible so that multiples can be purchasedĀ from various buyers.

The campaign has a theme –Ā ” silver linings for girls” – so in keeping with this theme I am making white beads which are highlighted with silver detail. I am hoping toĀ have a range of necklaces and earrings and perhaps jewellery sets available. While the jewellery designs will be reproducible, the exact beads may vary because they are handmade, which means if you purchase you will still be receiving a unique piece of jewellery while supporting a great cause.

The campaign is being launched on the 11th October, so I am still in the design phase, but am not far away from previews of the range, which will be launched on my Instagram account.

Here’s a little preview of some of the beads I made today šŸ™‚
