Sunday Studio Visit : Having A Play

Today in the studio I am glazing some custom yarn bowls and loading the kiln for a glaze firing tomorrow …. as well as the yarn bowls going into this firing I am also having a play with some small tapas dishes decorated with underglazes.

I don’t do much work using underglazes, and late last year I did some experimenting and the work sold almost immediately so I thought I would give it another go – not that work selling is the motivation behind my art work, but it does help to be able to put food on the table!

These simple designs are created using sponges cut to a circle and square shape, and a fine point brush. I think simple is best – less is more, and all that.

There’s not a lot more going on today – it has been a hot afternoon – 35C – luckily the studio is insulated so it was quite cool to work. A few years ago this was not the case!

Well thats about it for this afternoon… have a great weekend 🙂

  1. What a great idea the yarn bowls are Dawn, I imagine they could be quite popular.
